MMU Grune Welt 2012

After the official race day, most of the team members are in their final year and had graduated. Kelvin Lau, the team manager of MMU Grüne Welt 2011 had passed the post to Jude Leornard. Congratulation Jude!
It's quite a weird to have a "hammer" to symbolize the ceremony.

Jude as the leader for the team had started recruit more members to enter Shell Eco-marathon 2012 competition. Of course, the 2nd driver, Joshua had also been promoted and become the 1st driver. So far there are only 3 members have not graduated yet and are still doing their 2nd year of mechanical engineering studies. They are Jude, Joshua and Meng How. These 3 guys are the veteran for the team.

The recruitment was starting from early of August and the response was quite good. As the number of members are restricted to 20 pax by the organizer. The team needed to have interview session. The interview was carried out by Dr. Dirk Rilling, Mr. Lim B.K on 5th of August 2011. Finally the new  MMU Grüne Welt 2012 was officially formed on 8th of August 2011!!

Fabrication

Following will be the fabrication process of the prototype "Eco-V".
A Honda GX160 4 stroke engine was mounted on the aluminized steel chassis.

The driving chain is being adjusted to the desired gear ratio.
The team manager, Kelvin Lau is grinding the steel plate in order to fix the brake calliper on it.
The accelerator paddle was mounted on the chassis.
One of the team member, Mun Loong was adjusting the brake calliper to the right position and angle in order to prevent any unnecessary friction while the vehicle is moving.
The right paddle is for the acceleration while the 2 left paddles are for the front brakes.
The shaft is connected through the bicycle disc brake.
All team members are working on the wheels to reduce friction as much as possible by applying grease, adjust to the correct camber angle and etc.
The speedometer was attached to the centre of the steering. We have the engine start button and rear brake handle on the right part and the emergency stop button on the left.
Shocking news is that our vehicle can runs up to 133.1 km/hr!!! Haha... it's just for fun ^.^

We use rattan (rotan) to form the shape of the shell of the vehicle.
The 1st driver,  Alfred is using the string tp tied around the rattan to fix its shape.
The back part of the vehicle.
This is the part which will be opened up for the accessibility of the driver
Aluminium is used for the structure frame of the front part of the shell to enhance the safety of the driver.
PVC cloth is use for the shell as it is light in weight and water resistance.
From left, Alfred, Mun Long & Joshua are adjusting the pvc cloth in order to stick it to the rattan.

Alfred was testing the turning radius of the vehicle.
Takata 5 points Racing Belt was attached to the bulkhead and the chassis.
The overall view of the vehicle.
Drive testing around campus.
It's around 12am in the midnight. The teams are still working in the workshop.
Mr. Teoh Y. H is giving instruction to Alfred for the midnight test run!
Alfred is sharing his experience with the team about the test run in the chilly night.
Joshua, the second driver also get a chance to run the "Eco-V" around the campus.
